Fr. Patrick Alumuku, PhD, OON, has officially bowed out after seven years at the helm of the Catholic communication body, highlighting both gains and setbacks of his tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the SIGNIS Nigeria Congress, Fr. Alumuku recalled assuming office in 2018 with a vision to reposition the association.<\/p>\n<p>He cited achievements such as settling long-standing dues to SIGNIS World, Nigeria\u2019s strong presence at SIGNIS Africa and World congresses, and the successful 2021 Port Harcourt Congress that drew over 150 participants despite COVID-19 disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, lamented persistent financial challenges, internal conflicts, and the failed attempt to launch a SIGNIS Film and Music Festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2022, SIGNIS Nigeria has been sustained mainly by personal donations and sacrifices, a model that is not sustainable,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing gratitude to his executive and the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Fr. Alumuku urged members to embrace digital evangelization, foster unity, and safeguard the association from selfish interests.<\/p>\n<p>In a keynote address, Ambassador Joe Keshi charged Catholic media to move beyond information dissemination and become a prophetic voice against injustice, corruption, and bad governance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommunicating hope alone is not enough. Catholic media must demand accountability and boldly speak truth to power,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n<p>Keshi emphasized professionalism, urging Catholic journalists, priests, and religious to be well-grounded in history, politics, and social sciences in order to influence national discourse.<\/p>\n<p>The congress also brought together clergy, journalists, and lay faithful from across Nigeria, who elected new officers and pledged to chart a stronger future for Catholic media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oso Abidemi\u00a0 The President of SIGNIS Nigeria, Very Rev.
