{"id":74895,"date":"2025-09-04T05:53:54","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T05:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74895"},"modified":"2025-09-04T05:53:54","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T05:53:54","slug":"agbero-menace-claims-family-of-four-in-abuja-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/09\/04\/agbero-menace-claims-family-of-four-in-abuja-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Agbero Menace Claims Family of Four in Abuja Crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat and Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The growing menace of roadside touts, popularly known as agbero, has once again claimed lives in the Federal Capital Territory, after a family of four was killed in a ghastly crash at Mabushi Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses recounted that the family, traveling in their private vehicle, was attacked by touts around Berger Roundabout in Wuse.<\/p>\n<p>In a bid to extort and possibly hijack the car, some of the touts allegedly jumped onto the moving vehicle and grabbed at the steering wheel.<\/p>\n<p>The struggle caused the driver to lose control, and the vehicle rammed into a bridge pillar, killing the man, his wife, and two children on the spot.<\/p>\n<p>Reports are conflicting on whether one of the touts also died in the crash. While some eyewitnesses claimed angry residents retaliated against the attackers, the police and FRSC officials have downplayed such accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the information I received, no one died at the crash site and the injured were taken to the hospital,\u201d FRSC Sector Commander, Felix Theman, said.<\/p>\n<p>The tragedy has intensified public outcry over the lawlessness of touts in Abuja. Motorists describe Mabushi as one of the capital\u2019s most notorious zones for harassment and extortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese boys can stop any car, even private ones, and if you refuse to pay, they threaten or forcefully take control,\u201d lamented a commercial driver, Emmanuel Ezekiel.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, however, distanced themselves from the incident, denying that the suspects were part of its recognized task force.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Olokuta Rofiat and Samuel Adeola The growing menace of roadside touts, popularly known as agbero, has once again claimed lives in the Federal Capital Territory, after a family of four was killed in a ghastly crash at Mabushi Bridge.
