\nThe Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Tuesday demolished Boulevard Park in Maitama, Abuja, citing gross violations of park regulations and breaches of the Abuja Master Plan.
\nDirector of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, explained that the park, originally designated for recreation, had been overdeveloped and illegally converted into worship centers, revival grounds, and restaurants, many of which operated under unhygienic conditions.
\nHe stressed that the enforcement was necessary to curb infractions and restore order.
\nAccording to him, the park also served as a haven for individuals of questionable character, raising security and environmental concerns for nearby residents.
\nGaladima confirmed that due process was followed before the demolition, with notices issued and occupants given time to vacate.
\nSome individuals were found living within the premises in clear violation of park regulations.
\nHe disclosed that the allocation granted to the former operators has been technically revoked.
\nThe FCTA, he added, intends to redefine and reassign parks across the city to ensure they serve their intended recreational purpose, while also considering the recovery of enforcement costs in line with urban and regional planning laws.
