The House of Representatives has dismissed reports of an alleged plan to confront Speaker Abbas Tajudeen over delays in constituency project funding, describing the claims as misleading and based on casual remarks taken out of context.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Sunday, the House spokesman, Akin Rotimi Jr., faulted a media report (not by The PUNCH), which suggested that growing discontent over unpaid constituency projects was threatening to spark a showdown against the Speaker.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe report elevates isolated remarks and informal conversations from House WhatsApp groups as if they represent the official position of any caucus or the House itself,\u201d Rotimi said, insisting that the 10th Assembly remains united under Abbas despite its political, ethnic, and religious diversity.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the delay in contractor payments, he clarified that the issue was a nationwide fiscal challenge, not peculiar to lawmakers\u2019 projects.<\/p>\n

He noted that the House leadership, through its Appropriations Committees, has been engaging the Minister of Finance, and that payments have already commenced.<\/p>\n

Rotimi admitted that members were under pressure from constituents to deliver nominated projects but cautioned against misrepresenting such concerns.<\/p>\n

On the controversy over recruitment into the National Assembly bureaucracy, he distanced the House leadership from the process, stressing that it is managed by the National Assembly Service Commission under principles of Federal Character, inclusiveness, and merit.<\/p>\n

He added that the Speaker has directed the House Committee on Public Service Matters to probe the exercise to ensure transparency.<\/p>\n

The House further rejected claims that constituency projects or development benefits were skewed in favour of certain regions, insisting that it operates on fairness, equity, and justice.<\/p>\n
