{"id":74668,"date":"2025-09-01T08:14:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T08:14:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74668"},"modified":"2025-09-01T08:14:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T08:14:07","slug":"el-rufai-predicts-runoff-in-2027-says-tinubu-will-place-third","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/09\/01\/el-rufai-predicts-runoff-in-2027-says-tinubu-will-place-third\/","title":{"rendered":"El-Rufai Predicts Runoff in 2027, Says Tinubu Will Place Third"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has predicted that the 2027 presidential election will not produce an outright winner in the first ballot, setting the stage for a runoff.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Channels Television\u2019s Sunday Politics, el-Rufai argued that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has \u201cno pathway to victory\u201d in the next election and, at best, will come third.<\/p>\n<p>El-Rufai, who was a frontline campaigner for Tinubu in 2023, stressed that Nigerians will vote based on performance rather than party loyalty.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that state institutions alone cannot guarantee re-election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvite former President Goodluck Jonathan for a chat,\u201d he said. \u201cAsk him if he didn\u2019t have all the institutions in 2015; INEC, the police, the army and we still got him out. Is the case similar today?
