{"id":74563,"date":"2025-08-30T11:33:05","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T11:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74563"},"modified":"2025-08-30T11:33:05","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T11:33:05","slug":"nipost-imposes-80-duty-on-u-s-bound-parcels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/30\/nipost-imposes-80-duty-on-u-s-bound-parcels\/","title":{"rendered":"NIPOST Imposes $80 Duty on U.S.-Bound Parcels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nigerians sending parcels to the United States through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), will now pay a mandatory $80 prepaid customs duty, a move that could heavily affect individuals and small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The new levy, which took effect on August 29, 2025, follows a U.S. Executive Order suspending the long-standing de minimis exemption.<\/p>\n<p>The exemption had allowed goods valued below $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free.<\/p>\n<p>Enforced under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), the order compels postal services worldwide, including NIPOST, to collect the duty upfront.
