{"id":74440,"date":"2025-08-28T14:05:42","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T14:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74440"},"modified":"2025-08-28T14:05:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T14:05:42","slug":"lg-chairman-condemns-fatal-clash-at-lagos-island-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/28\/lg-chairman-condemns-fatal-clash-at-lagos-island-market\/","title":{"rendered":"LG Chairman Condemns Fatal Clash at Lagos Island Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Taiwo Oyekan, has condemned the violent altercation at Oluwole Urban Mall, Balogun Market, which claimed one life and disrupted trading activities on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitnesses said the clash began as a verbal dispute between two salesmen before escalating into a physical fight that ended in a fatal stabbing.<\/p>\n<p>The attacker was restrained by bystanders and handed over to security operatives.<\/p>\n<p>The tense atmosphere worsened when friends of the deceased staged a brief protest, but order was quickly restored.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Oyekan described the incident as disturbing and urged traders and residents to shun violence.<\/p>\n<p>He visited the scene with a team and reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of an ethnic clash.
