{"id":74373,"date":"2025-08-27T14:51:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T14:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74373"},"modified":"2025-08-27T14:51:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T14:51:00","slug":"igp-arraigns-sowore-on-forgery-false-publication-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/27\/igp-arraigns-sowore-on-forgery-false-publication-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP Arraigns Sowore on Forgery, False Publication Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has arraigned politician and online publisher, Omoyele Sowore, on a three-count charge of forgery and false publication.<\/p>\n<p>Filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja (FHC\/ABJ\/CR\/374\/2025), the charges accuse Sowore and his platform, Sahara Reporters, of forging a police wireless message purportedly from the IGP\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege the document was published on social media to incite police officers and the public against the government.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution described the alleged act as a felony under Section 1(2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.<\/p>\n<p>Sowore appeared in court for his arraignment on Tuesday, but proceedings were adjourned to September 15 after the prosecution disclosed it was yet to serve Sahara Reporters, listed as the second defendant.<\/p>\n<p>The IGP\u2019s legal team is now seeking substituted service through newspaper publication.<\/p>\n<p>The case adds to the activist-publisher\u2019s long history of legal battles with Nigerian authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo &nbsp; The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has arraigned politician and online publisher, Omoyele Sowore, on a three-count charge of forgery and false publication.
