{"id":74226,"date":"2025-08-26T08:39:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T08:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74226"},"modified":"2025-08-26T08:39:44","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T08:39:44","slug":"storm-wreaks-havoc-in-fct-displaces-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/26\/storm-wreaks-havoc-in-fct-displaces-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Storm Wreaks Havoc in FCT, Displaces Families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A violent rainstorm, described as the fiercest in nearly two decades, has destroyed homes and displaced dozens of families in rural communities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<br \/>\nThe storm battered Gawu Ward in Abaji Area Council, tearing through villages including Gasakpa I, Gasakpa II, Gimgbe, Gawu Town, Tungan-Usman, and Fuka-Jamigbe.<br \/>\nLocals said it was the heaviest downpour in 18 years, with houses collapsing as residents scrambled for safety.<\/p>\n<p>Although no lives were lost, the destruction was widespread.<br \/>\nMalam Saidu Garba\u2019s newly roofed three-bedroom mud house caved in, leaving his family homeless.<br \/>\nIn Jamigbe, Shuaibu Aliyu\u2019s home collapsed, forcing his family to take shelter with relatives.<br \/>\nHe appealed for urgent government support, noting that most victims are poor farmers with no means to rebuild.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Abaji Area Council has set up an emergency assessment committee led by Vice Chairman Alhaji Isah Makkah to document the damage and coordinate relief.<br \/>\nThe displaced families are relying on neighbors for temporary shelter while awaiting government assistance, amid fears that more rains could worsen their plight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Olokuta Rofiat A violent rainstorm, described as the fiercest in nearly two decades, has destroyed homes and displaced dozens of families in rural communities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
