{"id":74195,"date":"2025-08-26T06:32:48","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T06:32:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74195"},"modified":"2025-08-26T06:32:48","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T06:32:48","slug":"fcta-defends-crackdown-on-fake-tinted-glass-permits-despite-igps-grace-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/26\/fcta-defends-crackdown-on-fake-tinted-glass-permits-despite-igps-grace-period\/","title":{"rendered":"FCTA Defends Crackdown on Fake Tinted Glass Permits Despite IGP\u2019s Grace Period"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has justified its crackdown on vehicles with tinted glass permits, insisting that most of the permits in circulation are forged and pose serious security risks.<\/p>\n<p>This comes despite Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun\u2019s directive extending enforcement until October 2025.<\/p>\n<p>FCTA Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwary, represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji of the Command and Control Unit, said over 700 vehicles had already been impounded in Abuja for using illegal tints and fake permits. He linked many of the vehicles to \u201cone-chance\u201d robberies and other criminal activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone with the capacity to forge such documents could also be capable of committing crimes,\u201d Olumuji said during a citywide sanitation exercise on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The FCTA launched its operation on August 19, eight days after the IGP\u2019s extension, as part of wider security measures in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the crackdown, the administration also demolished more than 1,000 shanties in the Bunkoro District near Map Global Estate, Gwarinpa.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, said the structures, largely occupied by squatters and persons of \u201cquestionable character\u201d encroached on a two-kilometre stretch along Ring Road 3.<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that indigenous settlements were spared pending input from the Resettlement and Compensation Department but warned that other unauthorized structures would be cleared to prevent criminal exploitation and aid infrastructure development.<\/p>\n<p>Both officials stressed that the FCTA\u2019s joint enforcement and clearance operations would continue across the territory to enhance security, curb crime, and improve Abuja\u2019s urban outlook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has justified its crackdown on vehicles with tinted glass permits, insisting that most of the permits in circulation are forged and pose serious security risks.
