Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to transfer N32.7 billion and $445,000 recovered from officials of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).<\/p>\n
Falana, in a statement on Sunday under the platform of Alliance on Surviving Covid-19 and Beyond (ASCAB), recalled that President Bola Tinubu approved N32.7 billion in January 2025 for programmes like school feeding, N-Power, conditional cash transfer and GEEP loans.<\/p>\n
He noted that the EFCC earlier recovered the same amount alongside $445,000 from corrupt officials in the ministry, yet the funds have not been sent to NSIPA as required.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe commend the EFCC and urge it to intensify efforts to recover the outstanding N20 billion still unaccounted for. But more importantly, the recovered N32.7 billion and $445,000 should be transferred to the National Social Investment Programme Agency to help alleviate the hardship faced by over 133 million multi-dimensionally poor Nigerians,\u201d Falana said.<\/p>\n
The senior lawyer also called on federal, state and local governments to scale up contributions to NSIP, noting that FAAC shared N2.001 trillion in July and N1.8 trillion in June 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernments must go beyond lip service and invest meaningfully in social protection programmes. They must put their money where their mouth is,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
