{"id":74081,"date":"2025-08-25T06:13:27","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T06:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=74081"},"modified":"2025-08-25T06:13:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T06:13:27","slug":"operation-sweep-pushes-hoodlums-to-abuja-suburbs-residents-panic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/25\/operation-sweep-pushes-hoodlums-to-abuja-suburbs-residents-panic\/","title":{"rendered":"Operation Sweep Pushes Hoodlums to Abuja Suburbs, Residents Panic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory Administration\u2019s (FCTA), Operation Sweep has forced criminals out of Abuja\u2019s city centre, but many are now converging on satellite communities such as Kurudu, Kpeyegyi, Gidan Daya, Gidan Mangoro, and Orozo-where a surge of violent robberies has left residents living in fear.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, these areas have witnessed coordinated night attacks, with gangs of up to 50 storming homes, looting valuables, and assaulting residents.<\/p>\n<p>Victims say robbers cart away phones, cash, ATM cards, jewelry, and other property.<\/p>\n<p>At Gidan Mangoro\u2019s Zone D (Angwan Mada), hoodlums smashed doors and windows, moving from house to house in a brutal overnight raid.<\/p>\n<p>A female resident described the ordeal as \u201cterrifying,\u201d recalling how the criminals forced entry into multiple rooms.<\/p>\n<p>In another attack, a man and his teenage daughter escaped into the bush after machete-wielding assailants attempted to break into their home. He sustained injuries during the escape.<\/p>\n<p>Orozo experienced one of the most brazen assaults, when more than 50 armed men ransacked homes for nearly three hours.<\/p>\n<p>Mariam, a resident, said she called police during the invasion, but officers arrived only after the robbers had fled.<\/p>\n<p>In Gidan Daya, near Loyola Jesuit College, armed robbers fired into the air, overpowered security guards, and looted homes door-to-door before police eventually intervened.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are now urging authorities to extend Operation Sweep to the suburbs, lamenting that while Maitama and Wuse enjoy heavy patrols, satellite towns are bearing the brunt of the displaced hoodlums.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOperation Sweep Abuja should not only focus on the city centre.
