{"id":73778,"date":"2025-08-21T05:25:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T05:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73778"},"modified":"2025-08-21T05:25:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T05:25:07","slug":"fcta-begins-massive-water-project-in-bwari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/21\/fcta-begins-massive-water-project-in-bwari\/","title":{"rendered":"FCTA Begins Massive Water Project in Bwari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has commenced the construction of a potable water project in Bwari Area Council to boost access to clean water in Abuja\u2019s satellite towns.<\/p>\n<p>FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who flagged off the project on Wednesday, said it reflects President Bola Tinubu\u2019s commitment to spreading critical infrastructure beyond the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome thought it was politics, but today, it is reality. One thing you must give to Mr. President is that when he makes promises, he fulfills them,\u201d Wike stated.<\/p>\n<p>The minister explained that the project timeline was reduced from 18 months after discussions with contractors, CGC Nigeria Limited, and that 50 percent of the contract sum has already been released.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that the Bwari and Karu phases would be ready before Tinubu\u2019s third year in office, while Kuje and Kwali would follow in 2026, and Gwagwalada and Abaji in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of Tinubu\u2019s first term, Wike promised, \u201cevery satellite town will have access to clean, potable water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the project would reduce reliance on untreated boreholes, create over 1,600 jobs, and improve health and living standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is even more important than roads. Water is life. We will start, and we will complete it. Agreement is agreement,\u201d the minister declared, urging residents to protect the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, said the project aligns with the Abuja Master Plan and forms part of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project commissioned in June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the work involves site clearance, excavation, and laying of 198 kilometres of water pipelines, alongside the replacement of damaged pumps and an upgrade of the Usman Waterworks booster station.<\/p>\n<p>When completed, the project will serve Bwari township and nearby communities such as Ushafa, Jigu, Kuduru, and Kuchuku, benefiting nearly half a million residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has commenced the construction of a potable water project in Bwari Area Council to boost access to clean water in Abuja\u2019s satellite towns.
