{"id":73685,"date":"2025-08-20T07:19:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T07:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73685"},"modified":"2025-08-20T07:19:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T07:19:09","slug":"newborn-found-dead-in-floodwater-in-fct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/20\/newborn-found-dead-in-floodwater-in-fct\/","title":{"rendered":"Newborn Found Dead in Floodwater in FCT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Residents of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were thrown into mourning on Sunday evening after the body of a newborn baby was discovered in floodwater.<\/p>\n<p>The infant, wrapped in cloth, was spotted around 6:37 p.m. at an erosion site behind a slaughterhouse in Unguwar Abattoir following a heavy downpour.<\/p>\n<p>A resident, Mrs. Amina Yakubu, raised the alarm after seeing the body, prompting neighbors and two vigilante members to recover the child from beneath a large log.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the incident, an environmental officer, Danjuma, said the remains were deposited at a local hospital morgue on the advice of security operatives and the police.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities suspect the baby may have been dumped by an unknown woman before being swept away by floodwater.
