{"id":73674,"date":"2025-08-20T06:28:43","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T06:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73674"},"modified":"2025-08-20T06:28:43","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T06:28:43","slug":"court-freezes-four-bank-accounts-linked-to-ex-nnpcl-gmd-kyari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/20\/court-freezes-four-bank-accounts-linked-to-ex-nnpcl-gmd-kyari\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Freezes Four Bank Accounts Linked to Ex-NNPCL GMD Kyari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), an interim order to freeze four bank accounts allegedly linked to former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order on Tuesday following an ex-parte motion filed by the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>The commission\u2019s counsel, Ogechi Ujam, told the court that investigations were ongoing and more time was needed to conclude the probe.<\/p>\n<p>The motion, marked FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/1641 and filed on August 11, sought to freeze the accounts, including Jaiz Bank Account No. 0017922724 in Kyari\u2019s name, and two others belonging to Guwori Community Development Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>According to EFCC investigator Amin Abdullahi, N661.4 million suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities was traced to the accounts.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged that Kyari used family members as fronts to manage the funds, disguising transactions as payments for a book launch and NGO activities.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nwite ruled that the application was meritorious and granted the order as prayed, adjourning the matter until September 23 for a progress report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), an interim order to freeze four bank accounts allegedly linked to former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.
