{"id":73551,"date":"2025-08-19T09:30:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T09:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73551"},"modified":"2025-08-19T09:30:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T09:30:11","slug":"tenement-rate-amac-officials-reopen-efab-metropolis-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/19\/tenement-rate-amac-officials-reopen-efab-metropolis-estate\/","title":{"rendered":"Tenement Rate: AMAC Officials Reopen Efab Metropolis Estate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Friday sealed off the Efab Metropolis Estate in Karsana District along the Murtala Mohammed Expressway over alleged non-payment of tenement rates amounting to \u20a6600 million since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The enforcement exercise, which lasted several hours, saw several residents; including serving lawmakers and a retired Supreme Court Justice, temporarily locked in as officials and security operatives blocked the main entrance to the estate, restricting movement.<\/p>\n<p>The estate was later reopened following the intervention of some high-profile residents, including the lawmakers. By Monday morning, normalcy had returned with free human and vehicular movement observed in and out of the estate.<\/p>\n<p>AMAC\u2019s Coordinator of Tenement Rate, Ambassador Dr. Alewa Akawu Nasiru, stressed that the council would continue to carry out its constitutional responsibility of enforcing compliance while allowing room for dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that residents had requested additional time to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, a resident of the estate, appealed for obedience to judicial rulings, warning that disregard for court orders would not be tolerated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Friday sealed off the Efab Metropolis Estate in Karsana District along the Murtala Mohammed Expressway over alleged non-payment of tenement rates amounting to \u20a6600 million since 2022.
