{"id":73381,"date":"2025-08-17T05:42:48","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T05:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73381"},"modified":"2025-08-17T05:42:48","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T05:42:48","slug":"construction-workers-praise-wike-blast-umahi-over-incompetence-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/17\/construction-workers-praise-wike-blast-umahi-over-incompetence-claim\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction workers praise Wike, blast Umahi over incompetence claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Oso Abidemi\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA), has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his infrastructural strides in Abuja while criticizing Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for consistently disparaging construction firms.<\/p>\n<p>CCESSA National President, Dr. Ayodeji Adeyemo, speaking at the association\u2019s Quadrennial Delegates Conference on Friday in Abuja, said it was ironic that the same contractors Umahi had labelled incompetent were the ones delivering \u201cworld-class projects\u201d under Wike\u2019s supervision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see what the FCT Minister is doing. He is doing great jobs and we wonder in CCESSA why this same set of contractors that the Ministry of Works under Umahi is busy condemning are the same people delivering good projects in Abuja,\u201d Adeyemo said. \u201cThat is why the accolades are going to the FCT Minister. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works has failed the Nigerian masses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adeyemo, who has over three decades of experience in the sector, urged Umahi to listen to experts rather than making sweeping remarks.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that CCESSA had written twice to seek dialogue with the minister but got no response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recommend that the Minister and his team should listen to the voice of experts. There is no man that knows everything.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is an engineer, but I want to say it here, I have a PhD in engineering, and I still do not know everything,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi, represented by the Registrar of Trade Unions, Alex Olebe, assured CCESSA of the ministry\u2019s support, stressing the importance of unions working through appropriate channels.<\/p>\n<p>Also, President of the Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI), Vincent Barrah, lamented that the sector continues to struggle with inflation, volatile exchange rates, supply chain disruptions, insecurity, and delayed payments for completed projects.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that without deliberate support, the survival of construction firms and the livelihoods of thousands of workers would remain at risk.<\/p>\n<p>Barrah called for stronger cooperation between labour and employers, emphasizing that \u201cour shared goal is not merely to win battles at the bargaining table, but to ensure that there remains a table to bargain on.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Oso Abidemi\u00a0 The Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA), has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his infrastructural strides in Abuja while criticizing Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for consistently disparaging construction firms.
