{"id":73275,"date":"2025-08-15T12:48:56","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T12:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73275"},"modified":"2025-08-15T12:48:56","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T12:48:56","slug":"apc-slams-canadian-court-for-terrorist-label","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/15\/apc-slams-canadian-court-for-terrorist-label\/","title":{"rendered":"APC Slams Canadian Court for Terrorist Label"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticised Justice Phuong Ngo of the Federal Court of Canada after he upheld a ruling branding both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as terrorist organisations.<\/p>\n<p>The June 17, 2025 judgment also denied asylum to former party member Douglas Egharevba, citing his ties to the APC and PDP.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s Minister of Public Safety had accused the parties of political violence, undermining democracy, and electoral killings in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed the ruling as \u201cjaundiced\u201d and called the judge an \u201cignoramus,\u201d arguing the court had no jurisdiction to determine the status of a Nigerian political party.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged the verdict was influenced by \u201cdesperate and unpatriotic Nigerians\u201d seeking asylum and insisted the APC remains \u201ca credible democratic organisation\u201d that does not need legitimacy from a \u201cforeign bench\u201d operating under laws without extraterritorial reach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David The All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticised Justice Phuong Ngo of the Federal Court of Canada after he upheld a ruling branding both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as terrorist organisations.
