{"id":73234,"date":"2025-08-14T18:24:01","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T18:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=73234"},"modified":"2025-08-14T18:24:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T18:24:01","slug":"pencom-urges-fg-to-raise-police-pension-contribution-to-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/14\/pencom-urges-fg-to-raise-police-pension-contribution-to-20\/","title":{"rendered":"PenCom Urges FG to Raise Police Pension Contribution to 20%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The National Pension Commission (PenCom), has urged the Federal Government to increase its pension contribution for police officers from 10% to 20% to improve retirement benefits and address welfare concerns.<\/p>\n<p>PenCom Director-General, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, made the call during a visit to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun at Force Headquarters, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The visit came after recent protests by retired officers demanding better welfare and withdrawal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday, PenCom said it is also proposing key reforms, including a health insurance scheme for retirees, raising monthly pensions to 75% of a police officer\u2019s final salary, expanding the Retirement Resettlement Fund, and overhauling the police pension structure.<\/p>\n<p>On calls for the police to exit the CPS, Oloworaran said such a move was unnecessary, stressing that ongoing reforms would address officers\u2019 concerns.
