{"id":72800,"date":"2025-08-11T14:50:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T14:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72800"},"modified":"2025-08-11T14:50:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T14:50:14","slug":"india-boosts-nigerian-crude-imports-as-dangote-buys-u-s-oil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/11\/india-boosts-nigerian-crude-imports-as-dangote-buys-u-s-oil\/","title":{"rendered":"India Boosts Nigerian Crude Imports as Dangote Buys U.S. Oil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s state-owned refiners are increasing purchases of Nigerian crude even as the $20 billion Dangote Refinery in Lagos sources most of its feedstock from the United States; an irony not lost on industry observers.<\/p>\n<p>According to Reuters, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), recently bought one million barrels of Agbami crude for September via trader Trafigura, part of a wider strategy to secure millions of barrels from non-Russian suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), has also lined up one million barrels for September and October deliveries through direct negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Dangote Refinery; Africa\u2019s largest imported around 10 million barrels of crude in July alone, with U.S. oil dominating despite its crude-for-naira deal with the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>The shift in India\u2019s buying pattern follows U.S. pressure to curb Russian imports, which had surged after Moscow\u2019s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Talks with American officials, including former President Donald Trump, prompted Indian refiners to scale back discounted Russian purchases in late July.<\/p>\n<p>In total, over two million barrels of Nigerian crude are expected to arrive in India between September and October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David India\u2019s state-owned refiners are increasing purchases of Nigerian crude even as the $20 billion Dangote Refinery in Lagos sources most of its feedstock from the United States; an irony not lost on industry observers.
