{"id":72610,"date":"2025-08-09T08:49:37","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T08:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72610"},"modified":"2025-08-09T08:49:37","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T08:49:37","slug":"nigerian-women-will-soon-rule-the-world-odegbami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/09\/nigerian-women-will-soon-rule-the-world-odegbami\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian Women Will Soon Rule the World -Odegbami"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Fakande Oluwamayowa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Nigerian football star Segun Odegbami says recent sporting triumphs by the country\u2019s female athletes prove that Nigerian women are on the path to global dominance.<\/p>\n<p>Writing from what he called his \u201csports prism,\u201d Odegbami noted that sports connect to every aspect of life from health, science, and governance to culture, tourism, and even music.<\/p>\n<p>He compared his outlook to that of filmmaker Tunde Kelani, who views life through a camera lens.<\/p>\n<p>Odegbami reflected on the long-standing cultural and religious restrictions that have limited Nigerian women\u2019s participation in certain activities, especially sports.<\/p>\n<p>He dismissed outdated beliefs that sports undermine women\u2019s femininity, beauty, or ability to bear children.<\/p>\n<p>He celebrated the recent victories of Nigeria\u2019s Super Falcons, who shone at the Women\u2019s World Cup, and D\u2019Tigress, who won their fifth consecutive Afrobasketball Championship in Abidjan, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, these achievements often treated as routine in the past have now become powerful reminders of the potential and importance of women in Nigerian sports and society.<\/p>\n<p>Odegbami praised the government for recognising the significance of these victories with unprecedented rewards for the athletes, saying it sets a new benchmark for appreciating Nigerians who excel in their fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA benchmark has been set,\u201d he said. \u201cIt cannot suffer reversal anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Fakande Oluwamayowa Former Nigerian football star Segun Odegbami says recent sporting triumphs by the country\u2019s female athletes prove that Nigerian women are on the path to global dominance.
