A public address system urged occupants to leave immediately and avoid using the elevator to prevent entrapment.<\/p>\n<p>In the confusion, some lawyers abandoned their law books and bags, while crowds gathered outside to locate the source of the alarm.<\/p>\n<p>Minutes later, officers of the Federal Fire Service, led by CSF Innocent Itodo, arrived and clarified that it was a fire simulation exercise designed to train staff on emergency response.<\/p>\n<p>Itodo said the drill was part of safety awareness ahead of the ember months, when fire incidents are more common.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned against retrieving belongings during an alarm and reiterated that elevators should never be used in such situations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you hear the alarm, head to the nearest exit, keep to the right on the staircase, and don\u2019t run to avoid a stampede,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n<p>While some court workers criticised the unannounced drill for causing unnecessary panic, others described it as a timely reminder of fire safety protocols.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola Judges, lawyers, journalists, and staff of the Federal High Court, Abuja, fled their offices in panic on Friday after a sudden fire alarm interrupted court proceedings.
