{"id":72570,"date":"2025-08-08T11:27:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T11:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72570"},"modified":"2025-08-08T11:27:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-08T11:27:00","slug":"ecowas-police-gendarmerie-focal-points-meet-in-abuja-on-regional-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/08\/ecowas-police-gendarmerie-focal-points-meet-in-abuja-on-regional-security\/","title":{"rendered":"ECOWAS Police, Gendarmerie Focal Points Meet in Abuja on Regional Security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Annual Regional Meeting of ECOWAS Police and Gendarmerie Focal Points opened in Abuja on Wednesday, bringing together security chiefs from across West Africa to strengthen peace support operations in the sub-region.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day meeting, according to ECOWAS, aims to enhance coordination for the ECOWAS Standby Force by creating a central roster of trained police and gendarmerie officers for rapid deployment in crisis situations.<\/p>\n<p>Declaring the meeting open, Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee and Inspector General of Police of Sierra Leone, William Fayia Sellu\u2014represented by Deputy IGP Sahr Yomba Senesi\u2014said the initiative would provide a bridge between military interventions and civilian governance, restoring order while respecting citizens\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n<p>ECOWAS Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, Dr. Sani Adamu, who represented the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, called for capacity building, inter-agency collaboration, and dynamic strategies to tackle modern security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s Inspector General of Police, represented by ACP Aniagboso Chinedum, welcomed delegates and pledged Nigeria\u2019s support for deeper regional security integration.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting will also discuss procedures for vetting, training, deployment, and coordination of personnel under the ECOWAS Peace Support Operations framework.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Olokuta Rofiat The Annual Regional Meeting of ECOWAS Police and Gendarmerie Focal Points opened in Abuja on Wednesday, bringing together security chiefs from across West Africa to strengthen peace support operations in the sub-region.
