Bichi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government will construct a light rail system in Kano metropolis at a cost of N1.5 trillion, according to Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Rep. Abubakar Kabir Bichi.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists in Kano, Bichi said the $1bn project will ease transportation challenges in the city and boost the state\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor those who have travelled to Europe and Asia, you know the value of such projects. This will add great economic benefits to Kano,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Bichi dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu neglects the North, saying the administration has initiated major projects in infrastructure, health, agriculture, education, and security across the region.<\/p>\n<p>On infrastructure, he listed the nearly completed Kaduna\u2013Zaria\u2013Kano road, the re-awarded 400km Kaduna\u2013Abuja road now progressing well, and the 200km Kano\u2013Hadejia road already completed. He also mentioned the Kano Northern Bypass, which cost over N250bn.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker was in Kano for an APC stakeholders\u2019 meeting to plan ahead of the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the last elections, Kano gave President Tinubu over 500,000 votes, the highest in the country.
