{"id":72477,"date":"2025-08-07T12:16:01","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T12:16:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72477"},"modified":"2025-08-07T12:16:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T12:16:01","slug":"nimc-sets-new-rules-for-accessing-nin-self-service-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/07\/nimc-sets-new-rules-for-accessing-nin-self-service-portal\/","title":{"rendered":"NIMC Sets New Rules for Accessing NIN Self-Service Portal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has released new access guidelines for Nigerians using its self-service portal to modify their National Identification Number (NIN), records.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Commission announced that access to the portal is now strictly limited to the same device and browser used during account creation.<\/p>\n<p>The move, NIMC said, is aimed at enhancing data protection and preventing unauthorized access.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Once a self-service account is created, users must continue using the same device and browser for all future logins,&#8221; the statement read. &#8220;Accessing the portal from a different device or browser may result in denial of access.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NIMC also advised users not to clear their browser cache, warning that doing so could reset settings and trigger account lockout.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of a lockout, users are allowed only five attempts to unlock their account. If unsuccessful, they must undergo a formal unlinking process to regain access.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese measures are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard user identities,\u201d the Commission stated, urging Nigerians to comply with the new protocols to avoid disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>NIMC launched the self-service modification portal in October 2024 following the suspension of all NIN data modification activities at enrolment centres nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The portal enables Nigerians to update their personal details online anytime, anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Describing it as a more convenient and secure alternative, the Commission reiterated its commitment to streamlining identity management through technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has released new access guidelines for Nigerians using its self-service portal to modify their National Identification Number (NIN), records.
