Julius Abure as the party\u2019s National Chairman.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a peaceful protest at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Avotu-Johnson demanded the immediate upload of the names of LP\u2019s validly nominated candidates for the August 16, 2025 bye-elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not asking for too much,\u201d he said. \u201cJustice and the rule of law are the hallmarks of democracy around the world. Nigeria should not be an exception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The protest, which drew candidates from the Abure-led faction of the party and members of various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), saw demonstrators wielding placards with inscriptions such as: \u201cINEC, who is using you against LP?\u201d \u201cMahmood, stop destroying democracy in Nigeria,\u201d and \u201cTell INEC to obey court orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FCT Labour Party Chairman, Mr. Peter Ugwu, also condemned the electoral commission\u2019s failure to upload LP candidates\u2019 names despite successful primaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe conducted our primaries and elected candidates for this election. While INEC has uploaded the names of candidates from other parties, ours remain excluded. INEC should correct this anomaly,\u201d Ugwu said.<\/p>\n<p>CSO spokesperson, Mr. Peter Piper, added, \u201cThis is about democracy and the rule of law.
