{"id":72289,"date":"2025-08-06T10:14:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T10:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72289"},"modified":"2025-08-06T10:14:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T10:14:15","slug":"lagos-warns-lekki-residents-against-drinking-contaminated-borehole-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/06\/lagos-warns-lekki-residents-against-drinking-contaminated-borehole-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Warns Lekki Residents Against Drinking Contaminated Borehole Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Government has warned that borehole water in Lekki may be contaminated with untreated wastewater, posing serious health risks.<\/p>\n<p>Mahmood Adegbite, Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, issued the warning during a recent stakeholders\u2019 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>He said many residents in Lekki may unknowingly be consuming highly polluted water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call \u2018shit water,\u2019\u201d he said, stressing the urgency of wastewater treatment in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Adegbite noted that a proper wastewater management plan is underway, which, when completed, could curb waterborne diseases.<\/p>\n<p>He also addressed Lagos\u2019 persistent flooding challenges, despite heavy investments.
