{"id":72276,"date":"2025-08-06T09:55:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T09:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72276"},"modified":"2025-08-06T09:55:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T09:55:20","slug":"abia-doubles-electric-buses-launches-youth-talent-hunt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/06\/abia-doubles-electric-buses-launches-youth-talent-hunt\/","title":{"rendered":"Abia Doubles Electric Buses, Launches Youth Talent Hunt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Abia State Government has increased its fleet of electric buses from 20 to 40 and expanded its charging stations from 10 to 20, as part of efforts to transform the state&#8217;s transport sector.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kanu, the first 20 electric buses are expected to arrive in November 12 will serve Aba and 8 will operate in Umuahia. The additional 20 buses will cover other areas, including the Ohafia-Bende axis.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the transport upgrade is complemented by ongoing construction of modern bus terminals in Aba and Umuahia, junction improvements, and the installation of bus shelters along key routes.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu also announced the launch of the Abia State Creative Talent Hunt, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, aimed at discovering and empowering musical talents.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 1,200 youths are set for the second phase of the Fashion Skills Acquisition Programme in garments and leatherwork, executed in partnership with Ethnosentric Limited.<\/p>\n<p>The project has attracted over $3 million in funding from the Mastercard Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis massive injection of funds into Abia\u2019s economy is a testament to the quality of governance under Dr. Alex Otti and how positively the state is now perceived globally,\u201d Kanu added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David The Abia State Government has increased its fleet of electric buses from 20 to 40 and expanded its charging stations from 10 to 20, as part of efforts to transform the state&#8217;s transport sector.
