{"id":72022,"date":"2025-08-04T16:13:52","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T16:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=72022"},"modified":"2025-08-04T16:13:52","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T16:13:52","slug":"nfss-deploys-nearly-7000-forest-operatives-to-boost-security-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/04\/nfss-deploys-nearly-7000-forest-operatives-to-boost-security-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"NFSS Deploys Nearly 7,000 Forest Operatives to Boost Security in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Forestry Security Service (NFSS) has deployed nearly 7,000 trained operatives to enhance security in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding forests.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by the Commander General of the NFSS, Dr Joshua Osatimehin, during the closing of a five-day national capacity-building workshop held across Nigeria&#8217;s six geo-political zones.<\/p>\n<p>Osatimehin said the training was the second quarterly exercise of the year and focused on improving local intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and forest-based crime prevention.<\/p>\n<p>He revealed that over 24,000 new recruits had been trained nationwide, all of whom were screened by the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and traditional institutions before undergoing refresher courses led by security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that 6,836 operatives were trained in the FCT, 4,122 in Plateau, 6,856 in Gombe, and over 9,000 in the South East.<\/p>\n<p>The training was simultaneously conducted in key locations across the zones and involved lectures by the police, DSS, Civil Defence Corps, and the military.<\/p>\n<p>Osatimehin emphasized the importance of formalizing the agency\u2019s operations and urged President Bola Tinubu to assent to the NFSS Establishment Bill, recently passed by the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>He said the legal backing would empower NFSS officers to operate confidently and decisively.<\/p>\n<p>He also charged the new recruits to serve with honour and dedication, describing them as the heroes Nigeria needs to protect its forests and communities.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Commander-General (Intelligence), Dr John Metchie, added that Nigerians should expect improved security, urging public support for NFSS in the ongoing fight against forest-based crimes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo The National Forestry Security Service (NFSS) has deployed nearly 7,000 trained operatives to enhance security in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding forests.
