{"id":71833,"date":"2025-08-01T04:25:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T04:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71833"},"modified":"2025-08-01T04:25:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T04:25:13","slug":"abuja-court-jails-man-for-n700m-land-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/08\/01\/abuja-court-jails-man-for-n700m-land-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Court Jails Man for N700m Land Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has sentenced Jonathan Wallang, Managing Director of Swift and Hay Limited, to seven years in prison for defrauding the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Staff Bonny Cooperative Society of N700 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said Wallang was convicted for obtaining money under false pretenses by claiming to sell plots of land without lawful authority.<\/p>\n<p>According to the EFCC, Wallang received N520 million on October 20, 2011, and another N130 million on November 3, 2011, through Dinijocs Nigeria Limited, for the purported sale of land owned by Larix Company Limited.<\/p>\n<p>The case began in 2015 following a petition from the NLNG cooperative. Out of four suspects, two died during the trial, and one was discharged.<\/p>\n<p>Wallang, however, was found guilty on multiple counts, including conspiracy, forgery, and obtaining money by false pretenses.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Hamza Muazu sentenced him to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine on the false pretenses charges.<\/p>\n<p>For conspiracy and forgery, he received two years imprisonment with an option of N200,000 fine per count.<\/p>\n<p>The court also ordered Wallang to pay N580 million in restitution to the NLNG Staff Bonny Cooperative Society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has sentenced Jonathan Wallang, Managing Director of Swift and Hay Limited, to seven years in prison for defrauding the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Staff Bonny Cooperative Society of N700 million.
