Tension gripped Gurfata community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT after a violent clash broke out between farmers and herders, leading to the death of a farmer and injuries to three herders.<\/p>\n
The crisis reportedly started around 11:47 am on Tuesday when two herders allegedly led their cows into the farm of Dahiru Yakubu, destroying his crops. According to a resident, Ishaku Gwomna, the farmer confronted the herders, leading to an altercation during which one of the herders attacked Dahiru with a cutlass.<\/p>\n
The injured farmer was rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, where he later died. In retaliation, angry villagers attacked the herders, injuring three of them and burning down several huts in the herders’ camp.<\/p>\n
Security operatives, including soldiers and police officers, were later deployed to the area on the orders of the council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, to restore calm.<\/p>\n
Confirming the incident, the council\u2019s Special Adviser on Security, Adamu Yusuf, said the farmer had been buried, and efforts were ongoing to calm the community. He said investigations were still on regarding the burning of the herders\u2019 huts.<\/p>\n
Also speaking, the FCT chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Wakili Madugu, confirmed that three herders were injured and several grass huts were set ablaze by the villagers. He said security agencies are currently investigating the matter.<\/p>\n
Council chairman, Alhaji Giri, condemned the violence and called for peace, noting that his administration has been working to maintain harmony between the two groups. He urged both communities to remain calm as security agencies work to bring the culprits to justice.<\/p>\n
