{"id":71730,"date":"2025-07-30T14:26:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T14:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71730"},"modified":"2025-07-30T22:17:40","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T22:17:40","slug":"papal-knights-hold-inaugural-retreat-in-ekiti-urge-impactful-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/30\/papal-knights-hold-inaugural-retreat-in-ekiti-urge-impactful-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Papal Knights Hold Inaugural Retreat in Ekiti, Urge Impactful Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By John-Ralph Ayodele<\/p>\n<p>The Association of Papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria (APKMN), Ekiti Diocesan Chapter, held its inaugural retreat recently, at the Pope John Paul II Pastoral Centre in Ado-Ekiti with a strong call for members to make their knighthood relevant and impactful within the Diocese.<\/p>\n<p>Themed \u201cMaking Papal Knighthood Relevant and Impactful in Ekiti Diocese,\u201d the retreat featured Holy Mass, spiritual reflections, a keynote address, goodwill messages, and the election of pioneer officers.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, who celebrated the inaugural Mass, praised the association\u2019s coordination and urged members to be exemplary Christians in both public and private life.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized humility, contentment, and moral integrity as essential virtues for Papal Knights and Medalists. Rev. Fr. Benedict Bimbo Joseph was announced as the pioneer chaplain of the group.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering the retreat reflection, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Femi Adetola reminded members that Papal knighthood is a sacred honour for exceptional service to the Church and society, not merely ceremonial recognition.<\/p>\n<p>He urged them to align their activities with the Church\u2019s mission of evangelization, catechesis, pastoral care, unity, and social outreach.<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speaker, RHC Babatunde Aina, KSG, congratulated members for being part of a select group of fewer than 1,000 Papal awardees in Nigeria out of over 40 million Catholics.<\/p>\n<p>He provided historical context on the orders of knighthood and emphasized loyalty to the Pope, bishops, and priests.<\/p>\n<p>He also clarified the formal titles associated with various honours.<\/p>\n<p>The retreat concluded with the election and affirmation of the association\u2019s pioneer officers and board of trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Ajakaye will serve as Chairman of the Board, with Fr.
