{"id":71598,"date":"2025-07-28T16:20:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T16:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71598"},"modified":"2025-07-28T16:20:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T16:20:22","slug":"lagos-to-experience-intermittent-power-outages-as-tcn-begins-25-day-maintenance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/28\/lagos-to-experience-intermittent-power-outages-as-tcn-begins-25-day-maintenance\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos to Experience Intermittent Power Outages as TCN Begins 25-Day Maintenance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"model-response-message-contentr_90cd025c56f87582\" class=\"markdown markdown-main-panel enable-updated-hr-color\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><strong>By Onilede Titi Faith<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-160 citation-end-160\">Residents of Lagos State are bracing for a period of intermittent power outages following the commencement of a 25-day maintenance operation by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).<\/span> <span class=\"citation-159\">The critical infrastructure upgrade began on <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-159\">Monday, July 28, 2025<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-159\">, and is scheduled to run daily from <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-159\">8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until Thursday, August 21, 2025<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-159 citation-end-159\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-158\">The maintenance work specifically targets the <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-158\">Omotosho\u2013Ikeja West 330kV transmission line<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-158 citation-end-158\">, a vital artery in the power infrastructure supplying Lagos State.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-157 citation-end-157\">This scheduled operation is expected to cause occasional blackouts and load shedding in various parts of the state throughout the maintenance period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-156\">According to a statement from <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-156\">Ndidi Mbah<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-156 citation-end-156\">, TCN\u2019s General Manager of Public Affairs, the project has received approval from both the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO).<\/span> <span class=\"citation-155\">The upgrade involves the installation of <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-155\">Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-155 citation-end-155\"> on the transmission line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-154\">The OPGW installation is a crucial step aimed at enhancing grid monitoring, communication, and control through the <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-154\">SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-154 citation-end-154\">.\u00a0<\/span>This will significantly improve the overall efficiency, reliability, and real-time management of power transmission in the future.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-153 citation-end-153\">While acknowledging the inconvenience, TCN and the electricity distribution companies (DisCos) serving Lagos, including Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company, have urged residents to remain patient during the process.<\/span> They emphasize that the upgrade is a necessary step towards a more stable and efficient power supply in Lagos once completed. <span class=\"citation-152 citation-end-152\">Though power will be restored through the line after each day&#8217;s work, customers should anticipate disruptions during the daily maintenance window.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onilede Titi Faith Residents of Lagos State are bracing for a period of intermittent power outages following the commencement of a 25-day maintenance operation by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
