The Nigerian Senate has unveiled a comprehensive reform plan aimed at repositioning agricultural colleges across the country, aligning them with global best practices and integrating climate-smart innovations.\u00a0<\/span> This strategic move underscores a renewed legislative focus on agricultural education as a cornerstone of national development.<\/p>\n

The ambitious agenda was announced during a high-level stakeholder session organized by the <\/span>Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions<\/span><\/b>, chaired by <\/span>Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli<\/span><\/b>, who represents Oyo South.<\/span> Speaking at the event held at the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Senator Alli emphasized that agricultural education is pivotal to achieving Nigeria\u2019s food security, empowering its youth, and diversifying the economy.<\/p>\n

He further stated that the committee is committed to driving transformation in the sector through a multi-pronged approach, which includes <\/span>pushing legislative reforms, advocating for increased funding, and fostering international collaborations.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

A major highlight of the session was the announcement that the Senate will lead a delegation of Nigerian agricultural educators and institutions to the <\/span>COP30 climate conference in Bel\u00e9m, Brazil, in November 2025<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Promise Amahah<\/span><\/b>, technical consultant to the committee, described this move as a “historic step” toward promoting “green colleges” and showcasing Nigeria\u2019s agricultural innovations on the global stage.<\/span> \u201cThe Senate is not just legislating; it is leading global advocacy,\u201d Amahah asserted. \u201cAt COP30, Nigeria will present innovations from its agricultural institutions and build alliances to attract investment and knowledge transfer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Senator Alli also disclosed plans to host the <\/span>first Legislative Summit and Expo on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions in October 2025<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>This event will be followed by a global benchmarking tour in early 2026, where delegates will study best practices in Brazil and the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n

He urged all stakeholders to remain committed to the transformation drive, reiterating the committee\u2019s openness to partnerships and international exchange.
