{"id":715,"date":"2023-07-20T13:58:19","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T13:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=715"},"modified":"2023-07-20T13:58:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T13:58:19","slug":"court-orders-dss-to-grant-kanu-access-to-choice-doctor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2023\/07\/20\/court-orders-dss-to-grant-kanu-access-to-choice-doctor\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Orders DSS To Grant Kanu Access To Choice Doctor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to grant the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, access to a medical doctor of his choice.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Binta Nyako gave the judgement on grounds that Kanu requires urgent ear surgery amidst his reported failing health.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1710 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/thecrux.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Nnamdi-Kanu-in-court-1.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"278\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Delivering judgement, Justice Nyako, also ordered the secret police to also monitor, record and seal all medical sessions administered on the IPOB leader, for security purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The trial judge also dismissed the preliminary objections filed by the DSS challenging the application before it, on grounds that Kanu has the right to medical services even in detention.<\/p>\n<p>The court, in its judgment, also ordered that all Kanu\u2019s medical records be made available to the IPOB leader.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu, who has been in the custody of the DSS since June 2021, is facing terrorism-related charges brought against him by the secret police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to grant the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, access to a medical doctor of his choice.
