{"id":71359,"date":"2025-07-24T10:14:56","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T10:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71359"},"modified":"2025-07-24T10:14:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T10:14:56","slug":"world-bank-to-boost-digital-broadband-access-across-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/24\/world-bank-to-boost-digital-broadband-access-across-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank to Boost Digital Broadband Access Across Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-14 citation-end-14\">The World Bank Group is collaborating with the Nigerian Federal Government to significantly expand digital broadband access nationwide, a move aimed at accelerating growth and creating more job opportunities for the nation&#8217;s youth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"citation-13\">Anshula Kant<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-13\">, Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of the World Bank Group, revealed this initiative on <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-13\">Wednesday, July 23, 2025<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-13 citation-end-13\">, during a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-12 citation-end-12\">&#8220;We have a very large programme with Nigeria and are working closely with the government to deliver some projects.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-11 citation-end-11\">One of the biggest forthcoming projects will be in the digital space, providing digital broadband access across the country,\u201d Kant stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Beyond digital expansion, Kant highlighted the World Bank&#8217;s ongoing support for various critical sectors in Nigeria, including <b>agribusiness, energy, social protection, education, and health<\/b>. She affirmed that the bank&#8217;s strategic priorities are in strong alignment with Nigeria\u2019s focus on <b>youth employment, infrastructure development, and human capital enhancement<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"citation-10 citation-end-10\">&#8220;Today, the World Bank Group is on a mission to eradicate poverty on a livable planet.<\/span> What does that mean? Accelerated growth and better jobs for young people,\u201d she reiterated, emphasizing the importance of an enabling environment facilitated by access to energy, digital services, improved agricultural productivity, healthcare, and education.<\/p>\n<p>Kant commended President Tinubu\u2019s administration for implementing &#8220;bold macroeconomic reforms,&#8221; noting that &#8220;positive results are already visible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The high-profile meeting saw the presence of key Nigerian officials, including <b>Finance Minister Wale Edun, Communications Minister Bosun Tijani, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila<\/b>. <span class=\"citation-9\">World Bank officials <\/span><b><span class=\"citation-9\">Mayank Goyal and Taimur Samad<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-9 citation-end-9\"> were also in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"source-inline-chip-container ng-star-inserted\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola The World Bank Group is collaborating with the Nigerian Federal Government to significantly expand digital broadband access nationwide, a move aimed at accelerating growth and creating more job opportunities for the nation&#8217;s youth.
