Although Locust has not experienced the rampant kidnappings troubling neighbouring communities, locals say theft, assaults, and isolated killings are becoming disturbingly frequent.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most alarming incidents occurred in May when a resident was shot dead during a robbery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was shot while trying to protect his family. His body is still in the morgue due to financial constraints,\u201d lamented Miss Faith Apeh, a stylist living nearby. \u201cWe\u2019re living in fear every night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To combat the situation, community members have formed informal vigilante patrols comprising local youth and elders.<\/p>\n<p>However, the patrols are self-funded and lack the resources and training to offer effective protection.<\/p>\n<p>Community leader, Mallam Iliya Yusuf, stressed that while the residents are doing their part, lasting peace and safety can only be achieved through visible and sustained government intervention.<\/p>\n<p>The residents are urging the Kuje Area Council, the FCT Administration, and the Police to step in with concrete security measures to prevent the situation from worsening.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu Residents of Locust, a rural community in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to intensify efforts in securing their lives and property amid rising insecurity in the area.
