{"id":71264,"date":"2025-07-23T07:02:52","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T07:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71264"},"modified":"2025-07-23T07:02:52","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T07:02:52","slug":"minister-vows-sustainable-transport-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/23\/minister-vows-sustainable-transport-reforms\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister Vows Sustainable Transport Reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Oso Abidemi\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has reaffirmed the Federal Government\u2019s commitment to mitigating the negative impact of transportation on the environment by promoting a sustainable transport system.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking through Mr. Musa Omayie Ibrahim, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Alkali made the declaration during a courtesy visit by students of the 2025 Master\u2019s in Transport and Logistics (MTL), Field Study Programme from the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria.<\/p>\n<p>The visit, led by Engr. Dr. Remi Adewumi, took place at the Ministry of Transportation Headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Describing transportation as the \u201cindispensable oxygen in the life of every society,\u201d the minister emphasized that the government is taking deliberate steps to address sustainability concerns within the sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn pursuit of its mandate, the FMOT has undertaken certain measures to overcome some of the challenges bedevilling sustainable transport in the country,\u201d Alkali said, adding that environmental costs of modern transport demand urgent reforms.<\/p>\n<p>He praised NITT, Zaria, as Nigeria\u2019s \u201ccitadel of transport technology,\u201d stating that the Ministry would continue to leverage its expertise for sectoral improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Encouraging the students to be diligent in their studies, the minister noted, \u201cThe decisions we make today will shape the future of transportation, the environment, and our communities for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Dr. Adewumi, who represented NITT\u2019s Director General, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, said the field trip was designed to expose students to the practical realities of Nigeria\u2019s transport challenges, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that while classroom knowledge is important, hands-on experience is vital in developing strategic management skills.<\/p>\n<p>He also advised students to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the study exercise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Oso Abidemi\u00a0 The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has reaffirmed the Federal Government\u2019s commitment to mitigating the negative impact of transportation on the environment by promoting a sustainable transport system.
