{"id":71180,"date":"2025-07-22T05:26:04","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T05:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71180"},"modified":"2025-07-22T05:26:04","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T05:26:04","slug":"armwrestling-stars-arrive-abuja-for-african-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/22\/armwrestling-stars-arrive-abuja-for-african-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"Armwrestling Stars Arrive Abuja for African Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With just two days to the kickoff of the 14th African Armwrestling Championship, top global and continental figures have arrived in Abuja ahead of the event slated for July 23, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned Master World Armwrestling Referee, Olegs Gantimurovs, is in town to ensure officiating meets international standards.<\/p>\n<p>Also in Abuja are the President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, and the Federation\u2019s Secretary, underscoring Nigeria\u2019s central role in growing the sport across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>More than 400 athletes and officials from over 20 African countries, including South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon, Togo, and Madagascar are expected to participate.<\/p>\n<p>The Local Organizing Committee, chaired by Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, says all logistics, including accommodation, venues, and training facilities, are in place.<\/p>\n<p>The Athletes&#8217; Village is fully set, and media crews are finalizing preparations for wide coverage.
