{"id":71081,"date":"2025-07-20T23:59:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T23:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=71081"},"modified":"2025-07-20T23:59:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T23:59:22","slug":"kperogi-retracts-divorce-claim-apologises-to-aisha-buhari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/20\/kperogi-retracts-divorce-claim-apologises-to-aisha-buhari\/","title":{"rendered":"Kperogi Retracts Divorce Claim, Apologises to Aisha Buhari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Media scholar and columnist Farooq Kperogi has issued a public apology to former First Lady Aisha Buhari over a Facebook post in which he alleged she had separated from the late President Muhammadu Buhari before his death.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Sunday, Kperogi described the July 16 post as a grave error of judgment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt ranks among the most painful mistakes I\u2019ve ever made,\u201d he wrote, admitting that the post caused emotional distress to Mrs. Buhari and her family.<\/p>\n<p>He said the information came from a trusted source but acknowledged that publishing it was wrong. \u201cNot all credible information is meant for the public domain,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Kperogi noted that former presidential aide Sani Zorro contacted him to refute the claim and affirm that the Buharis remained married until the president\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n<p>While standing by his source\u2019s credibility, Kperogi said the emotional damage outweighed the relevance of the claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe factual accuracy no longer matters in the face of the distress it caused,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He insisted the post was not politically motivated and offered an unreserved apology: \u201cTo Her Excellency, Aisha Buhari, I am truly sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal Media scholar and columnist Farooq Kperogi has issued a public apology to former First Lady Aisha Buhari over a Facebook post in which he alleged she had separated from the late President Muhammadu Buhari before his death.
