The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), High Court has dismissed former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello\u2019s request for the release of his international passport to seek medical treatment abroad.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge, Justice Maryann Anenih, ruled on Thursday that the court could not grant the application because the passport is not in its custody but with the Federal High Court, where Bello is facing a related case before Justice Emeka Nwite.<\/p>\n
Justice Anenih emphasized that courts do not make orders in vain, noting that Bello had previously confirmed in an affidavit that his passport was deposited at the Federal High Court as part of his bail conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe passport cannot be with two different courts at the same time,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
The application, filed by Bello\u2019s counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), on June 20, 2025, cited health grounds.<\/p>\n
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), opposed the request, warning it could stall proceedings.<\/p>\n
