{"id":70873,"date":"2025-07-17T13:19:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:19:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70873"},"modified":"2025-07-17T13:19:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:19:20","slug":"fg-rolls-out-new-policy-to-regulate-private-non-state-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/17\/fg-rolls-out-new-policy-to-regulate-private-non-state-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Rolls Out New Policy to Regulate Private, Non-State Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By Onilede Titi Faith<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government has introduced a new regulatory policy for non-state schools in Nigeria to address concerns over quality, safety, and standards amid a surge in private education providers.<\/p>\n<p>Unveiled by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa in Abuja, the policy forms part of the National Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), and sets national minimum standards for private, faith-based, tutorial, and home schools.<\/p>\n<p>It covers teacher qualifications, curriculum compliance, infrastructure, and registration requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2017 and 2022, non-state schools reportedly grew by 39%, far outpacing public school growth.<\/p>\n<p>To support the policy, compliant schools will benefit from government grants and UK-funded vouchers to boost inclusion, especially for out-of-school children.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Alausa noted that while non-state schools expand access, unregulated growth has led to quality gaps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegulation ensures accountability across the system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), pledged to enforce teacher certification nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The policy takes effect in the 2025\u20132026 academic session.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; By Onilede Titi Faith The Federal Government has introduced a new regulatory policy for non-state schools in Nigeria to address concerns over quality, safety, and standards amid a surge in private education providers.
