{"id":70837,"date":"2025-07-17T12:34:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T12:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70837"},"modified":"2025-07-17T12:34:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T12:34:12","slug":"bwari-council-workers-resume-after-three-month-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/17\/bwari-council-workers-resume-after-three-month-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Bwari Council Workers Resume After Three-Month Strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Workers of Bwari Area Council are set to resume work today, Thursday, following a three-month strike over unpaid wages and welfare issues.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel Ishaku, Chairman of NULGE Bwari Chapter, told Newsmen that resumption was delayed due to Tuesday\u2019s public holiday and the need to fumigate office premises.<\/p>\n<p>He confirmed that workers have received five months\u2019 salary arrears.<\/p>\n<p>The strike, which began on March 24, was jointly declared by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and NULGE across FCT\u2019s six area councils.<\/p>\n<p>While NUT suspended its action on July 9, NULGE followed on July 14 after intervention by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.<\/p>\n<p>A communique issued after a union meeting stated that 10% of the councils\u2019 Internally Generated Revenue would be used to settle outstanding salaries.<\/p>\n<p>A special committee has been set up to harmonize arrears within two weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu &nbsp; Workers of Bwari Area Council are set to resume work today, Thursday, following a three-month strike over unpaid wages and welfare issues.
