{"id":70771,"date":"2025-07-16T15:09:51","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T15:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70771"},"modified":"2025-07-16T15:09:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T15:09:51","slug":"lagos-police-bust-n500m-visa-scam-arrest-four-suspects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/16\/lagos-police-bust-n500m-visa-scam-arrest-four-suspects\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Police Bust N500m Visa Scam, Arrest Four Suspects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a massive visa fraud syndicate that defrauded over 100 victims of more than \u20a6500 million, leading to the arrest of four suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects; Blessing Wefsutu, 27; Chineye Christian, 36; Archibong Udeme Ifereke, 23; and Maurine Peter, 25 were employees of an educational consultancy firm in the Ago Okota area of Lagos, believed to be a front for the scam.<\/p>\n<p>The syndicate allegedly promised fake work visas and employment opportunities in Canada and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Victims were lured with the assurance of guaranteed relocation but received nothing after paying large sums.<\/p>\n<p>The scam came to light after victims reported to the Ago Okota Police Division. The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that over 100 people were affected, with losses totaling around \u20a6500 million.<\/p>\n<p>He added that more suspects linked to the operation are currently at large and being tracked.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, advised residents to verify travel and recruitment agencies before making payments, stressing the command&#8217;s resolve to protect citizens and bring fraudsters to justice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo &nbsp; The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a massive visa fraud syndicate that defrauded over 100 victims of more than \u20a6500 million, leading to the arrest of four suspects.
