{"id":70704,"date":"2025-07-16T06:08:51","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T06:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70704"},"modified":"2025-07-16T06:08:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T06:08:51","slug":"tinubu-pays-last-respect-to-buhari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/16\/tinubu-pays-last-respect-to-buhari\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu Pays Last Respect to Buhari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday paid his last respect to former President Muhammadu Buhari in a state-coordinated burial ceremony marked with national dignity, solemnity, and full military honours.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the federal delegation to Katsina, Tinubu arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar\u2019Adua International Airport shortly before 2 p.m., where he received Buhari\u2019s remains with a sombre guard of honour.<\/p>\n<p>Draped in the Nigerian flag, the late president\u2019s casket was carried by service chiefs as a 21-gun salute echoed across the airfield, symbolizing the nation&#8217;s final salute to its departed leader.<\/p>\n<p>The president, accompanied by top government officials and military brass, stood in solemn reflection before the casket, paying tribute to the man he succeeded in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>From the airport, Tinubu proceeded to Buhari\u2019s hometown of Daura, where he joined family, friends, and dignitaries from across Nigeria and West Africa for the Jan\u0101\u2019izah (Islamic funeral prayer) and internment.<\/p>\n<p>In a show of national unity and reverence, Tinubu had earlier declared a seven-day period of mourning, during which all flags across the country were ordered to fly at half-mast.<\/p>\n<p>He also declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday in honour of the late president, describing Buhari as \u201ca patriot who served with integrity and left an indelible mark on the nation\u2019s democratic journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing mourners at the burial, Tinubu praised Buhari\u2019s legacy, saying, \u201cNigeria has lost one of its most disciplined and principled sons. He was a statesman who gave his all to the nation.
