{"id":70688,"date":"2025-07-15T20:26:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T20:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70688"},"modified":"2025-07-15T20:26:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T20:26:14","slug":"107-yelwata-attack-victims-still-hospitalised-benue-sema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/15\/107-yelwata-attack-victims-still-hospitalised-benue-sema\/","title":{"rendered":"107 Yelwata Attack Victims Still Hospitalised -Benue SEMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), James Iorpuu, has disclosed that 107 survivors of the June 13 attack on Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area are still receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Makurdi on Tuesday during a joint media briefing with emergency management officials from Nasarawa and Plateau States, Iorpuu, who also serves as the Permanent Secretary of the Benue State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, condemned the persistent attacks on rural communities in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He described the scale of destruction in Yelwata as devastating and noted that more than 200 lives were lost in the assault carried out by armed assailants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, 107 survivors of the Yelwata attack are still receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and other medical facilities across the state,\u201d he said. \u201cWe pray such an incident never occurs again in any part of Benue State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iorpuu explained that his counterparts from Nasarawa and Plateau States were in Benue to express solidarity and explore joint strategies to curb rising insecurity in the North Central region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working as a team to find ways of stopping these armed incursions, particularly from those who cross into Benue through Nasarawa State,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, the Director General of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, Ben Akwash, extended condolences to the people of Benue and emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in tackling security threats and preparing for disasters, including the risk of flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Sunday Abdu, reassured Benue residents of continued support from neighbouring states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBenue holds a special place in our hearts. The aggression you are facing is not isolated.
