{"id":70541,"date":"2025-07-14T06:34:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T06:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70541"},"modified":"2025-07-14T06:34:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T06:34:10","slug":"abuja-hospital-scandal-fg-orders-emergency-reforms-after-viral-video-outrage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/14\/abuja-hospital-scandal-fg-orders-emergency-reforms-after-viral-video-outrage\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Hospital Scandal: FG Orders Emergency Reforms After Viral Video Outrage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government has ordered immediate reforms at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, following widespread public outrage over a viral video showing alleged neglect of accident victims by hospital staff.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, made the directive during a surprise visit to the facility on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The visit came after a video circulated online, showing victims of a road crash reportedly left unattended after being brought in by a good Samaritan.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, a staff member was allegedly heard saying they lacked gloves. Although some victims were later assisted, public concern had already mounted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are in the eye of the storm, responsible for saving lives,\u201d Dr. Salako told hospital personnel. \u201cEven if you\u2019ve done one million things right, one mistake is what the public will remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He urged the staff to always prioritize timely and compassionate care.<\/p>\n<p>As part of immediate measures, the Minister ordered the hospital to increase the number of casualty officers per shift from two to at least four to strengthen emergency response.<\/p>\n<p>He also instructed that newly recruited health assistants be fully integrated into daily clinical operations.<\/p>\n<p>While noting improvements in power and water supply, Salako emphasized the need for continued infrastructure upgrades, especially in the emergency unit, to ensure they are centered around patient needs.<\/p>\n<p>On security, hospital authorities confirmed collaboration with private security guards and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to better control access to the emergency area.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister recommended improved surveillance systems, highlighting the critical role CCTV footage has played in previous investigations.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Emergency Unit, Dr. Timothy Sama\u2019ila, admitted the unit is overwhelmed by limited space, high patient volume, and staff shortages.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the federal government is preparing to roll out a national emergency care training programme aimed at boosting the capacity and responsiveness of emergency units in public hospitals nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola The Federal Government has ordered immediate reforms at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, following widespread public outrage over a viral video showing alleged neglect of accident victims by hospital staff.
