Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has defended his widely circulated act of serving food at a charity event in Imo State, insisting it was an expression of genuine service, not a publicity stunt.<\/p>\n
In a post on his official X handle, Obi said his actions at the Jubilee of Hope outreach were guided by conscience, not politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s sounding strange that I was seen serving food,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThat event was not about me\u2026 true leadership is service.\u201d<\/p>\n
Obi emphasized that he didn\u2019t invite the media and did not publicize the event himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs expected, the usual naysayers went to work, trying to twist something sincere into something political,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He noted that the outreach, aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and poor, had other dignitaries like Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Senator Osita Izunaso, and A.B.C. Orjiako in attendance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t about the cameras; it was about conscience,\u201d Obi said, adding that humility and compassion have always defined his lifestyle.<\/p>\n
He explained he stayed longer at the event only because many poor attendees personally asked him to serve them. \u201cService is not special. It is expected,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
