The Niger State Police Command has arrested 22 individuals following a violent clash linked to illegal mining activities in the M.I. Wushishi Estate area of Minna. The incident, which occurred on July 10, left several people injured.<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that officers from the Maitumbi Division responded swiftly to a report of a brawl around 10:00 a.m. \u201cUpon arrival at the scene, the Divisional Police Officer led a team that apprehended 22 suspects, while others managed to flee,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Those arrested, including several women, are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna.<\/p>\n
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects who fled the scene.<\/p>\n
Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Garba Yahaya, visited the site shortly after the incident.<\/p>\n
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Dibie Maureen, the commissioner condemned the illegal mining and the ensuing violence, calling it a threat to public safety.<\/p>\n
He reiterated the government\u2019s zero-tolerance policy on unauthorized mining activities.<\/p>\n
