After evading authorities for seven years, Ibrahim Momoh, also known as Ibrahim Bendel, a significant distributor of illegal substances in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, was apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The arrest took place during a raid on his hideout in Filin Dabo, Dei-Dei area of the FCT.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Momoh’s initial arrest occurred on November 27, 2014, with 385.1kgs of cannabis sativa. He was convicted and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on July 22, 2015. However, he escaped from prison custody on May 18, 2016, while serving his term at Kuje.<\/p>\n

Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives conducted a raid on Momoh’s warehouse on November 20, 2022, seizing 81 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 1,278kgs. The warehouse was situated within his poultry farm in Dei-Dei.<\/p>\n

Although Momoh was not present during the raid, his warehouse manager, 55-year-old Ghanaian Richard Forson Gordon, was apprehended, prosecuted, and sentenced to two years in jail. Momoh was subsequently declared a wanted individual by the agency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The manhunt for Momoh paid off on November 5, 2023, when operatives raided his hideout at Filin Dabo, Dei-Dei, arresting him with 56.9kgs of cannabis sativa and 42.7 grams of Diazepam. In another raid in the same area on November 13, a suspect named Yusufa Ibrahim, 27, was arrested with 75.3kgs of cannabis.<\/p>\n

In addition to these operations, a significant operation in the forest of Efon Alaye in Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State led to the destruction of 52,500 kilograms of cannabis sativa covering over 21 hectares of farmland. Fifteen suspects were arrested during this operation.<\/p>\n

In Ondo State, five persons, including another wanted drug kingpin, Christopher Onyebuchi, 40, were arrested at New Bridge Compound, Idoani, and a total of 1,945 kilograms of cannabis were recovered. Other operations were carried out in Sokoto, Edo, Benue, Ogun, and Lagos states, resulting in multiple arrests and significant drug seizures.<\/p>\n
